Training
Current Project’s Update:
Abbie’s Pride: Former racehorse who’s being retrained as a jumper and potential dressage horse.
Finita DM: (Update) Finita is now on her way to be an accomplished jumper, dressage horse, as well as trick horse!
Shya: A horse that came from an abusive past, now working on building trust and getting her health back.
Training Methods:
Siobhan trains using techniques from several big-name trainers such as Tommie Turvey, Julie Goodnight, and Robert Liner. With her own experience throughout the years thrown in the mix, Siobhan approaches training from the ground up. Speaking the natural body language of the Horse, she begins with establishing her place in the herd. Once the horse learns to respect the “Alpha mare,” the real training can begin.
Siobhan specializes in abused horses and off-the-track Thoroughbreds, but also trains for dressage, jumping, tricks, and Western. Please note: Not every horse is a good candidate for learning tricks. Contact RiverStar Equine for more information on trick training!
Current Stable:
RiverStar Equine is currently at Silver Stallion Stables in Aledo, TX. RiverStar Equine is always more than happy to come out to your place to work with you and your horse as well!
Pricing and Services:
Our policy at RiverStar Equine is to provide you with a great learning experience for you and your horse. Because every horse and owner is different, as well as trainer, the first lesson or training session is ALWAYS free. We want to get to know your horse as well as give you the chance to see our methods in action before you commit to using our services. At the end of the first lesson/session, your horse will be graded on a scale of 1 to 5 and charged accordingly per session. Examples:
1- ($15/hour) a horse that has just a few minor “quirks” or just needs a refresher course.
2- ($25/hour) a horse that can be moody or particularly spooked by certain situations.
3- ($35/hour) a horse that needs extensive work from the saddle or is having issues with respect.
4- ($45/hour) a horse that need extensive work from the saddle as well as has the potential or history or bucking, rearing, or running out.
5- ($55/hour) a horse that needs extensive work from the saddle, has a known tendency to rear, buck, kick, bite, or run out.
Note: Most of the people who contact RiverStar have horses that fall into the 1-3 catagories. Occasionally, we do come across the 4’s and 5’s, and those horses require the most dedication. 4’s and 5’s sessions sometime run a little longer than 1 hour, and we will not quit working with your horse until we come to a good stopping point. A session is NEVER allowed to end on a bad note. In the instances where a 4 or 5 horse cannot reach a good stopping point within the allotted time, we might spend up to an extra hour with your horse looking for that acceptable place to stop. If your session runs over 2 hours, there may be an additional charge. Typically, but not always, a horse that needs work from the saddle will usually be classified as at least a 3.
Consults:
RiverStar Equine now offers nutritional consults! Ask today about our special offer for Spring!
Nutritional Consults consist of Siobhan coming out to your barn and thoroughly examining your pasture, feed program, supplementation, as well as the body condition of your horse. Too often horses are diagnosed as “lame,” “hard keepers,” or “hot,” when all they really need is an adjustment to their feed regimen. Nutritional consults help save you money on training and vet bills by fixing many problems with simple nutritional changes.
Nutritional consult: $25 per horse within a 20-mile radius. After 25 miles, add $1 per mile.
Supplement Profile: A supplement profile is put together for horses that need more than one supplement to meet their nutritional needs or solve health problems. This takes hours of research and studying to create the perfect profile to meet your horse’s needs.
Supplement Profile: $10 per horse
